What is OCR?
Optical character recognition (OCR) finds the letters in a picture and turns them into real text. Instead of retyping a printed notice, a photo of a document or a screenshot, you can copy the text, edit it, translate it or paste it into a message.
How to get text from an image
- Choose the language the text is written in. For mixed English and Bangla, choose “English + বাংলা”.
- Drop, choose or paste the image. Reading starts by itself.
- Check and copy the text. Fix any letters the reader got wrong, then copy it or download a .txt file.
For the best results
- Use a sharp, well-lit picture taken straight on, with the text filling most of the frame.
- Printed text works far better than handwriting.
- Crop away everything except the text first, with the Crop & Rotate tool, and rotate sideways photos upright.
- The first time you read a language, its data (a few megabytes) is downloaded; after that it is cached and much faster.
Frequently asked questions
Can it read Bangla text from a picture?
Yes. Choose বাংলা (Bangla) as the language. It reads printed Bangla well; handwriting is much less reliable.
Is my image uploaded to a server?
No. The text is read by your browser on your own device. Only the reading software and language data are downloaded.
Can I get text from a PDF?
For scanned PDFs, use the PDF OCR tool, which reads every page. For PDFs with real text, PDF to Text is faster and exact.
