Why forms ask for KB, not pixels
University applications, job portals, passport and visa forms, NID and bank uploads — nearly all of them cap the file size rather than the dimensions. A phone photo is 3–6 MB, so it is rejected instantly. This tool works backwards from the limit: it keeps trying lower quality, and then smaller dimensions, until the file genuinely fits.
How it gets to the exact size
- The image is redrawn in your browser at the size you asked for.
- JPEG quality is narrowed down by halving the range seven times, which lands very close to the limit without going over.
- If the lowest quality is still too big, the picture is scaled down 18% at a time and tried again.
Common limits
- Photo: often 100 KB, sometimes 20–50 KB, usually 300×300 to 600×600 px
- Signature: usually 20–60 KB, much wider than it is tall
- Scanned document: 200 KB to 1 MB
How to use the size reducer
- Drop the photo in — or paste it straight from the clipboard.
- Type the limit the form gives you, in KB.
- Set the longest side if the form also caps the dimensions, then download.
Getting a good result
- Use JPG for photographs. PNG cannot be compressed by quality, so it only shrinks when the dimensions come down.
- If the picture looks blotchy at the target size, reduce the longest side instead — 600 px at decent quality beats 2,000 px at terrible quality.
- Everything happens in your browser. Your ID photo and documents never reach a server.
Frequently asked questions
How do I reduce a photo to 100 KB?
Drop the photo above, type 100 in the target box and download the result. The tool lowers the quality until the file fits, and shrinks the dimensions only if it has to.
Will the photo still be clear enough for a form?
Usually yes. Most forms want a 300×300 to 600×600 photo, and at that size 100 KB is plenty. Set the longest side as well if the form asks for particular dimensions.
Is my photo uploaded anywhere?
No. The resizing happens inside your browser using the canvas, so the image never leaves your device — which matters for ID photos and documents.
