What is lorem ipsum?
Lorem ipsum is scrambled Latin, adapted from a text by Cicero written in 45 BC, that printers and designers have used as filler since the 1500s. Because it reads like ordinary prose without meaning anything, it lets people judge a layout, a font or a page design without being distracted by the words.
How to use the lorem ipsum generator
- Choose the amount: a number of paragraphs, sentences or words.
- Pick the options: start with the classic “Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet” and wrap paragraphs in <p> tags for HTML.
- Copy the text, or press Generate again for a different mix of words.
Good to know
- Every paragraph has four to seven sentences of 7 to 15 words, close to the rhythm of real copy.
- Replace placeholder text before a page goes live. Search engines see it as thin content, and visitors notice it straight away.
- For checking how a design copes with long words or other scripts, test with real text in that language too.

How many words are in a paragraph of lorem ipsum?
Here, between about 30 and 100 words — four to seven sentences of 7 to 15 words each.
