What hashtags actually do
A hashtag is a label, not a magic spell. It tells the platform what a post is about and puts it in a feed people can follow. On Instagram and TikTok that still brings real reach; on Facebook and LinkedIn it mostly helps categorise. Thirty generic tags on a post about nothing in particular bring nothing.
How many to use
- Instagram: up to 30 are allowed; most accounts do best with 8 to 15 relevant ones.
- TikTok: 3 to 5. The caption space is small and the algorithm reads the video itself.
- X: 1 or 2. More looks like spam.
- LinkedIn: 3 to 5 professional tags.
- Facebook: 2 or 3, if any.
- YouTube: up to 15, and the first three show above the title.
How to use the generator
- Type keywords separated by commas, or paste a whole caption and untick "keep phrases together" to pull single words out of it.
- Pick the platform and the generator trims the list to what that platform rewards.
- Add your brand tag so every post carries it, and copy the result.
Choosing better tags
- Mix sizes: one or two huge tags, several mid-sized ones, and a few very specific ones where you can realistically be seen.
- Local tags work hard in a small market — #DhakaBusiness will out-earn #Business every time.
- Check a tag before using it. Some are flooded with unrelated or banned content and drag a post down with them.
- Keep a few sets ready for the kinds of posts you make, rather than inventing them each time.
Formatting rules
- No spaces or punctuation inside a tag — CamelCase keeps long ones readable and is better for screen readers.
- A tag cannot start with a number on some platforms, and symbols such as $ or % are not allowed.
- Bangla and other non-Latin scripts work in hashtags on all the major platforms.
Frequently asked questions
How many hashtags should I use on Instagram?
Up to 30 are allowed, but 8 to 15 genuinely relevant ones usually perform better than a wall of generic tags.
Should hashtags go in the caption or the first comment?
It makes no measurable difference to reach. Put them in the comment if you want a cleaner caption.
Do hashtags work on Facebook?
Barely. Two or three are fine for categorising a post, but the caption, the image and the timing matter far more there.
