From marks to a percentage
A percentage is just your marks scaled to 100, which is what makes results from different exams comparable. This calculator also maps that percentage onto the letter grade and GPA points used in Bangladeshi school and college results, so you can see all three at once.
Formula and grade bands
Percentage = marks obtained ÷ total marks × 100- 80% and above → A+ (GPA 5.00) · 70–79 → A (4.00) · 60–69 → A− (3.50)
- 50–59 → B (3.00) · 40–49 → C (2.00) · 33–39 → D (1.00) · below 33 → F
Worked example
438 out of 500 is 87.6%, which is an A+ and a GPA of 5.00 on the Bangladeshi scale, or 4.00 on the four-point scale. The pass mark at 33% is 165, so the result is 273 marks clear of it.
How to use the marks calculator
- Enter the marks you scored and the total marks for the paper or the whole exam.
- Adjust the pass mark if your board uses something other than 33%.
- Read the percentage, grade and GPA together — most admission forms ask for one of the three.
Points to watch
- For an overall result, add up the marks of all subjects and their totals, then enter the two sums. Averaging the individual percentages gives a different, less accurate number when subjects carry different marks.
- Optional subjects, practicals and grace marks are counted differently by different boards. Use your official marksheet for anything formal.
- Universities abroad often want a percentage rather than a GPA — this is the number to put on the form.
